Wyndham Istanbul Old City, hotel in Istanbul

Wyndham Istanbul Old City - Celal Aga Konagi Hotel features a garden, shared lounge, a restaurant and bar in Istanbul. This 5-star hotel offers room service and a concierge service.

**Hotel Review: Istanbul (4-day stay at a 5-star hotel)** I recently stayed at a hotel in Istanbul for 4 days, and my experience was far from what I expected for a 5-star establishment. Here’s a detailed review of my stay: **Check-in and Room Issues:** - **Initial Room Disappointment:** Upon arrival, I was given a room without any windows, despite booking a room with a balcony and city view. After complaining, I was moved to another room, which lacked a balcony and had no air conditioning, in over 33°C heat. - **Security Concerns:** The room I was moved to had an adjoining door to another room, which was not secured. To my shock, I could open this door, which led to another occupied room. - **Noise Issues:** My room faced a bar that was extremely loud until 1 AM, disrupting my sleep. **Further Room Problems:** - **Room Change and Key Issues:** The next day, I requested a room change and was given a smaller room after a long discussion. However, my key card didn’t work, requiring multiple trips to the reception. Eventually, the concierge gave me a master key card, which opened all hotel rooms, posing a serious security risk. **Dining Experience:** - **Half Board Disappointment:** Despite booking a half-board option, the dining experience was subpar. The breakfast and dinner were on a first-come, first-serve basis, and food was not replenished. This forced me to eat dinner outside most nights. - **Health Concerns:** On the last night, the dinner made me sick. **Facilities and Equipment:** - **Outdated and Dysfunctional:** The hotel's equipment was very old and had many issues, falling far short of 5-star standards. **Positive Note:** - **Convenient Location:** The only redeeming feature was the hotel's location next to the metro. **Overall Rating:** Based on my experience, I would rate this hotel as a 2 or 3-star hotel at best. The numerous issues with room allocation, security, dining, and outdated facilities make it unworthy of a 5-star rating.

FAQs about hotels in Istanbul

The Best of Asia and Europe

The city of Istanbul offers a trip unlike any other, encompassing Asian and European cultures to create a heady mix of art, music and food. The amazing Old Town and the Sultanahmet are home to iconic Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia. More history is hidden in the Topkapi Palace, where you can glimpse the splendour and opulence of Turkey’s Ottoman heritage.

Take a stroll through the historic centre or the bustling Taksim Square before watching the sun set behind countless mosques and minarets. Local fish markets and numerous restaurants lining the bridge to Galata offer the Golden Horn’s daily catch.

If you prefer the fine art of bargaining to fine art, lose yourself in the Grand Bazar and maybe you’ll emerge with a hookah, some Turkish coffee, or even a carpet. The Spice Bazar further immerses you in the sights, smells, and tastes of Turkish culture.

Getting to Istanbul is an easy trip from Ataturk International Airport or Sabiha Gokcen Airport. Whether you want a luxury hotel on the Asian side or a budget hostel in Taksim Square, Booking.com has over 1,000 great accommodations for your holiday in Istanbul.

Staying in Istanbul is an enchanting experience, offering a unique blend of history, culture, and contemporary life. This city, which bridges Europe and Asia, seamlessly merges Eastern and Western influences. I visit Istanbul every year, and each trip unveils new wonders and experiences. The city's rich heritage is evident in landmarks like the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and the Blue Mosque. Bustling bazaars such as the Grand Bazaar and Spice Market add to its vibrant charm. With stunning views of the Bosphorus (my favourite), diverse culinary offerings, and a lively nightlife, Istanbul remains an ever-intriguing destination that I eagerly return to annually. Also getting around the city is easy, thanks to an efficient public transportation system that includes trams, metro, buses, and ferries, making exploration convenient and enjoyable.

Istanbul is the place to be. It is full of life. The city is super busy and chaotic but it is full of energy. It brings so many different cultures into one place and the architecture along with the landscape is just lovely. The weather was a bit hot at the beginning but it cooled down towards the end of the week but it was not unbearable. For those who love to swim, they will find it perfect.

Istanbul is HUGE with lots of different areas.

Istanbul is HUGE with lots of different areas. Plenty of good walks. Food is a bit one dimensional and it is not a cheap destination. Ive been before so I swerved the mosques, but I would suggest going in autumn or early spring to avoid the heat and crowds at all the sights. The monuments are exhausting, huge and expensive so choose wisely. Do not fall for any perfume scams on the street - they are all toxic fakes. Galata area has heaps of fun restaurants and bars but the steep streets may be difficult for some.

To be honest with you; the only thing I liked about Istanbul...

To be honest with you; the only thing I liked about Istanbul are the old mosques and the food. Moreover, locals were short tempered and not that friendly and you barely see smiles. Using Taxis was an awful experience even through Uber Lots of smoking and even taxis drivers smoke while driving you via Uber! Tourist attractions are chaos and even when you pay online to skip the line, you will need to stand in long ques for security!
